DAYS IN BETWEEN

installation, 47 Howard St, Soho, New York, 2015

——

The installation Days in between is constructed as a narrative where the process of adding and layering confronts a gradual disappearance. Set in a basement without windows, the depth, sound and darkness of the space are part of the piece.

Outside, the streets offer a succession of windows desperately trying to grab attention with neon signs, moving images, flashing lights. They are brutal intrusions in one’s perception, but their repetition also generates a soothing pace to the walk. Windows can also stage micro settings for individual scenes. Looking into someone’s home at night procures a sense of immediate intimacy.

Days in between explores a conceptual environment guided by these ephemeral and everyday interactions. The installation as a whole is a promenade through light and surface, shadows and images, distance and proximity, where the experimental and the reflective overlap, allowing the eye and the body to explore gaps in between.
