The installation closer is a direct reaction to my experience of Berlin and more specifically to the overwhelming juxtaposition of nature in relation to the citizens and the architecture. Fascinated by the invasive presence of untouched vegetation throughout the city and the proximity of the river Spree, I created a series of works based on the concept of inside and outside in relation with private and public spaces, using multiple media. I filled a glass container with water from the nearby river with an underwater neon diffusing the word closer. A video projection, a large-scale black & white photograph of an industrial building overgrown by trees and plants and a series of abstract paintings merged the reflections of surrounding landscapes. By weaving visuals, sound and touch, this syneasthetic installation enticed the viewer’s senses and created a hightened awareness of his everyday environment.
