three-day installation and performance
National Library of France, Paris, 2012
The three-day performance-installation XY-XX, which I designed for the esplanade of Paris National Library (Bibliothèque François Mittérand) and its passers-by, consisted in unfolding everyday an interspace open to the public. I choreographed four female figures with floating sails to move slowly around the four masculine high-rise towers of the Library. As performers approached the river Seine, they unrolled four white stripes of fabric in a geometrical anamorphosis. Passers-by were randomly joining performers creating an ephemeral meeting place overlooking the river. XY-XX was thus a physical and spatial experience which tend to create a union between bodies and architecture and alter our perception of space. The four figures are shaping an unknown future, embodied by the open structure and the perspective it offers : the horizon.
